Principal’s Message |
Elections. An area where adults could learn from kids Campaign week was in full-swing as we held our annual student council elections. While only 6th graders may run for office, our entire school population gets excited for the potential possibilities. Students really examine the campaign posters. And, during the speeches they really listen to the candidates (some even take notes!). As we are at the very beginning of our own national presidential elections, I am struck by the dichotomy of Springer’s student council campaigns and those waged by our prospective presidential candidates. Unlike our current state of national politics, our student candidates are respectful of each other- even encouraging of one another. And unlike some of our presidential candidates, our student candidates put forth real ideas for the betterment of their constituents. There is no “doom and gloom” warnings from our student candidates; the messages and ideas they present are positive and hopeful. Another testament to the great spirit of democratic governing is the participation rate of our 6th graders. This year, 37 6th graders ran for a student council office! And while all could not win, I’m certain that our students will elect a student council that will be effective and enthusiastic. Congratulations to ALL of our candidates for a great campaign week. Our adult politicians could learn a great deal from our students. A reminder: Our annual Walk-a-thon Kick-Off Assembly will be held on Friday morning at flag assembly. Unfortunately, once again, I will not be able to attend (wink wink). This is disconcerting as I have yet to actually see one of these fantastic assemblies. Parents are welcome to stay and watch the fun. Enjoy your weekend. Wade Spenader- Principal |

OhmConnect Earns $$ For Springer! |
The Springer community started using a novel fundraising platform last year, called OhmConnect. We raised $930 by having a handful of Springer parents turn down their electricity usage just one hour per week. We're aiming to raise $5,000 this year and all you need to do is signup using this link and connect your utility account. OhmConnect donates between $50 - $150 per team member per year, depending on how much you reduce. As part of a "Back to School" competition running through 9/24, they'll be donating an instant $30 per new team member. If you haven't signed up yet, now's the time to do it! |
