Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

The Super bowl game was incredible… it was an example of never giving up… if there is a will there is a way.  The grit,  determination and motivation was evident the second half of the game.  One team seized the opportunity and created the change through the orchestra of many.  Opportunity surrounds us each day.

Each day our students are seizing the opportunity to learn something new.  Celebrate and recognize the grit, determination and motivation your children accomplish each day.

This week our students are preparing for their Famous American Presentations happening next week: learning  reading strategies in the class, writing in their journals about what happened before they came to school, mentoring other students, sorting words by soft g and learning how to solve algebra equations. Or at lunch they might be learning yoga poses...

Staffing Update

This week Regina Regan began a new chapter in her life when she retired as our Tech Specialist.  She has been with the district for many years and has been an asset to our school as well as to other schools in the district over the years.  We will miss her and applaud her for all she has done for our students and staff.

Maintaining Wellness At Home

Join us in this three class series on ways to support your child’s mental and physical

wellness at home. Learn how to improve communication with your child, to recognize

warning signs of distress, and to help your teens cope with stress and prevent reaching

levels of distress.

University and also at Bay Area Children's Association. Dr. Kessler specializes in school

mental health and suicide prevention and provides consultation to the school psychologists at the nine schools in LASD.

Cornerstone Corner

This month’s ABC book: “Long Shot—Never Too Small to Dream Big” by Chris Paul is an autobiography of an NBA All-Star. As a child, he is one of the shortest players on his basketball team, but with hard work, determination, and the support of his family he is able to realize his dreams.

Goals of lesson:

  1. Help students explore and discover their sparks (interests, dreams, passions, etc.)

  2. Identify their spark champions. (People who will help.)

  3. Set a GPS -short and long term goals, steps to get there, and shifting of gears to achieve their dreams.

  4. Identify their goal champions

  5. Reflect upon and identify the support students receive from their peers, family, and community.

  6. Empower students to provide support to their peers, family, and community.

Questions to ask and discuss to reinforce this lesson at home:

  • What is your biggest dream?

  • What matters to you? What sparks your interest?

  • What is your favorite thing to do, and how can I help you do it?

  • What help do you need to reach your goals?

  • Who will be your spark or goal champion (helps with taking steps to achieve a dream)?

When you “catch” kids modeling positive behaviors...

Notice, Name it, and Celebrate it!
