Principal’s Message |
Thank you to all yesterday who gave Ms. Lynn Boskie a warm welcome to Springer. The Springer community showed its true spirit of warmth and love by welcoming Ms. Boskie yesterday during our flag assembly. She mentioned to me afterwards that that spirit was quite palpable to her. After spending the day here at Springer she is even more excited to be Springer’s principal! Common Sense Media One of my favorite online resource is Common Sense Media. This website provides parents and educators reviews of video games and other media. It also has a ton of helpful tips regarding almost anything that is online. This week’s main article is on helpful apps for family travel. I wanted to make you aware of it as, I’m sure, many of you will be traveling over the summer. You can find it by clicking on this link. Have a wonderful 3 day weekend! Wade Spenader- Principal |
PTA Corner |
Thanks for the Thanks!!!! Thank you to the teachers and Volunteer Appreciation Committee for putting on a beautiful brunch yesterday! The cards lining the multi are meaningful and exquisite works of art. The volunteers felt honored and appreciated. Kinder Yard Update! Anyone who has spent time in the kinder yard this week has witnessed a magical transformation! In just one day the kinder blacktop became a beautiful garden complete with a floral alphabet, stepping stone numbers, ladybugs, bees and butterflies! The playhouse has been turned into "The Beehive" and the kindergartners have been buzzing around playing, learning and smiling in their new space. This project was a collaborative effort between PTA, the Kinder/TK team, artist Morgan Bricca and numerous parent volunteers. HUGE thanks to Morgan, Mrs. Crew and the many volunteers who spent their Saturday creating this masterpiece. The PTA is eager to enlist Morgan for another collaborative project so watch for an opportunity on the Back to School form to make a donation towards a project that can be enjoyed by the entire campus. Stayed tuned for our Quad plans in the Fall!

Please Check Lost and Found |
Springer’s Lost and Found is overflowing with items and one of them may belong to your child! Please come by and check the Lost and Found cabinet and claim your stuff. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the school year. |
School Supplies Collection |
Hello Springer parents! Since the end of the school year is fast approaching, most of your children will be cleaning out their desks and backpacks of their school supplies. Instead of throwing these away, it would be greatly appreciated if you would drop them in the cardboard box in the office labeled, "Supplying Schools." Supplying Schools is a club at Mountain View high school that collects gently used school supplies from LASD schools and donates them to schools in East Palo Alto whose teachers are taking money out of their own paychecks to buy supplies for their students. Please drop off pencils, pens, markers, colored pencils, crayons, binders, folders, pencil boxes, sharpeners, scissors, backpacks, and any other supplies that are in decent condition. We really appreciate all that you have to offer. The supplies will be collected on June 9. Thank you! |
Come Check Out The Springer Garden! |
The Springer Garden is really alive this time of year! Drop by any day of the week and watch things growing! It's located behind Abra just beyond the school lunch tables. The garden is used by the Living Classroom program which provides garden education for TK-6 grade throughout the school year (thanks to the District, the PTA, volunteers, and the Living Classroom nonprofit organization). Ask your kids to show you around. The current 3rd graders have just planted the "3 Sisters" of corn, beans and squash that next year's 3rd graders will be able to explore and harvest during Living Classroom lessons. Watch the plants grow over the summer! Learn something about native California plants by reading the botanical descriptions near many of the plants to find out how Native Americans would use them and the wildlife that they attract. Watch the artichokes as they turn into large purple blooms, and see the apples and grapes starting to form. The 2nd graders are about to harvest the wheat they planted last Fall to complete the "seed to pretzel" lesson. Many fun activities originate in our own school garden. Drop in, have a look and learn more! www.living-classroom.org (If you want to help out in the garden, contact Heidi Melander, Springer garden parent volunteer; heidimel2@yahoo.com). |

Attention 6th Grade Parents: Hot Lunch Volunteers at Blach |
Congratulations to all of your graduating 6th graders. For those of you with children entering Blach next year that would like to help out at the school, please consider volunteering to serve lunch. This is a fun way to see the kids in action and one of the very few opportunities for volunteering at Blach. In the past, sign ups happen at the back to school coffee, but now we start serving lunch on the first day of school. Because of this, crews are being set up now. It is a great way to stay connected to other parents from your elementary school and also to meet new parents. There is plenty of room to organize a small group that wants to work together. Please contact me at srkhuntia@yahoo.com if you'd like to volunteer or if you have any questions. Please let me know what days work for you and if you would like to volunteer every week or every other week or would like to be put on the substitute list. Please also let me know if you want to be scheduled with specific people. |
Discover Cub Scouts! |
Bring Your Bike and Learn About Cub Scouts! Springer's Cub Scout pack invites all boys in grades K-4 and their parents to a bike rodeo and pizza party on Wed., June 1, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on the Springer blacktop. Get a taste of Scouting and consider joining this fall! Kindergartners are especially welcome. For more information, please contact cubmaster[at]springerpack36.org. |

LAEF |
Tick-tock...three weeks and $50,000 to go! In these final weeks, we are counting on 10 more families from each school to donate, fulfill their phonathon pledge and/or submit a corporate matching request. We are so close to meeting our $3.5M goal for the 2015/16 school year, but still have $50,000 to raise. Every additional dollar makes a big difference! Please give at LAEFOnline.org or drop a check in our school’s office this week. Thank you. Coming soon: LAEF Survey 2016 Results & Annual Grant for 2016/17 We’ve wrapped up our grantmaking meetings with LASD Leadership and would like to once again thank the 1,725 parents who participated in our annual parent survey. Your feedback was integral to our discussions, and we will be announcing our 2016/17 annual grant, to continue funding smaller class sizes, enrichment staff and programs, and more at your child’s school soon. |
