Principal’s Message

We are just one week away from Springer’s annual auction.  On Saturday, March 19th, Springer will go “Saturday Night Live”.  Next Saturday, I will see you at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto.  And I must say, I’m more eager to see parent costumes for this auction than any previous year!    Tickets are on sale now (have you bought yours yet?).

In years past, the auction featured a fund-a-need drive to fulfill a special project at Springer.   This year, we are not including a fund-a-need portion because PTA has effectively budgeted to get our students and campus what they need- although this year’s budget relies on a solid auction turnout.  We are super thankful for your generosity and hope you can make the auction.

You can find information about the Saturday Night Live Auction just below.

Stay dry this weekend!

Wade Spenader- Principal

STEM Expo Update

th.jpg

Would you like to help with the Expo? We need reviewers and people to help with setup and cleanup. It takes a lot of hands to put on such a fun community event. If you’d like to help, click here and fill out the link. We currently have 230 participants and 18 reviewers. We could use a little more help. Thanks so much!

If you made a video and would like it to be on the big screen during the STEM Expo, you need to turn it in by next Friday, March 18th.

You have two options:

Upload it to your Google Drive and share it with Ms. Craddock. (JCraddock@lasdk8.org)

Put it on a flash drive and bring it to Ms. Craddock. Please put it in a ziploc baggie with your first AND last name and classroom number.

Come to the Springer STEM Expo on March 22nd from 4:30 to 7:00 in the Multi and see all the wonderful projects. It is going to be an amazing event!Unknown 12.16.54 PM.png

Making Copies….

Recent curriculum changes in the district have resulted in increased printing needs which costs teachers time and PTA dollars at the print shop.  We would like to offset these costs by enlisting volunteers who are willing to spend a few hours in the workroom making copies.  Please stop by the office or email Diana Rudolph  drudolph@lasdschools.org if you are interested in volunteering.

Project Cornerstone

Cornerstone Corner

This month’s ABC book: “Empty Pot” by Demi tells the story of Ping, a young Chinese boy with a green thumb who wins the emperor's competition. Ping stands by his values even when it is not easy to do.

Goal of lesson:

*Model how to act with Courage, Honesty, Integrity, Responsibility, and Courage (C.H.I.R.P.).

*Empower students to act as Upstanders and create circles of trust with peers.

*Stand by beliefs and stand up for them with courage and determination.

*Use resistance skills to resist peer pressure.

To reinforce this lesson at home:

-Tell your child about a time when you stood up for something even thought it was difficult.

- Share a time when you didn't stand up for something because you were afraid.

-Discuss why it's easier to act on your convictions in some situations than others.

When you “catch” kids modeling positive behaviors... Notice, Name it, and Celebrate it!
