Principal’s Message

Springing into the month of March, I wanted to alert you to some important and special events on the Springer horizon.  The cool thing about these events is that they they give our students an opportunity to perform and display their talents.  The events also showcase the well-rounded education our students receive- both in the sciences and arts.

On Wednesday, March 2nd, our 6th graders, along with their peers from Loyola and Oak will highlight their musical talents at the annual String Fling at Blach at 7pm.  (Thank you LAEF for your support of the upper grade music program!)

On Friday, March 18th, our youngest students will show off their vocal music skills with the annual Starting Arts concert.  TK, K, and 1st graders will perform at 9:00am in the multi.  2nd and 3rd graders have their concert at 10:30am.  (Thank you PTA for your support of this program!)  This is always on of my favorite events of the year.

On Tuesday, March 22nd, Springer’s STEM Expo will be here.  The Expo allows our students, from all grade levels, to exhibit their work in the science and engineering fields.  The presentation and thinking of Springer’s students is on impressive display.  The STEM Expo is open to the public from 4:30pm to 7pm.  (Another thank you to LAEF for their support of the STEM program)

I hope you can attend one or all of these events.

Have a great weekend,

Wade Spenader- Principal

STEM Expo Update

Would you like to help with the Expo? We need reviewers and people to help with setup and cleanup. It takes a lot of hands to put on such a fun community event. If you’d like to help, click here and fill out the link. We currently have 165 participants and ONE reviewer. I think I’m going to need some help. Thanks so much!

Are you interested in signing up for the STEM Expo? The registration deadline has been extended to February 28th. That is this Sunday! If you have any questions, contact Miss Craddock at jcraddock@lasdschools.org.

If you are unable to do a project, you should still come to the Springer STEM Expo on March 22nd from 4:30 to 7:00 in the Multi and see all the wonderful projects. It is going to be an amazing event!

Engineering Week

February 22-26 is National Engineering Week! Thank you for supplying us with newspapers to practice our building skills. When I asked a first grade class, “What is an engineer?” Riley’s response was, “Someone who creates things.” The rest of the class immediately added onto his answer with rockets, computers, self-driving cars, towers, bridges, buildings… It made my heart smile! Ms. Bain and Mrs. Kuypers got together to build a newspaper structure the whole team could get inside. When the fifth graders had to leave, the second graders decided to finish the challenge on their own time working through recess to make the most stable structure. Ms. Hultberg’s class built spaghetti and marshmallow towers over three feet tall! Kindergarten and third grade made buddy dates to build together. Springer students embrace challenges and make me excited for our future!
