Tax Donation Receipts From the PTA |
Tax Donation Receipts PTA tax donation receipts were sent home via the Friday Folders before the December holiday break. Please check your child’s backpack if you did not receive it. All families that filled out the BTS form should have received a tax receipt, specifying the portion of the BTS order that was a donation (as opposed to a purchase). A separate tax receipt was sent to families that donated >$250 for the Walk-a-thon. For Walk-a-thon donations under $250, all you need is a copy of your cashed check to claim the deduction on your taxes. Please contact the PTA's Financial Secretary, Sonny Jandial (sonnyjandial[at]gmail[dot]com), if you have any questions regarding tax receipts. Thanks for your support of the Springer PTA! |
Project Cornerstone |
Cornerstone Corner This month’s ABC book: “Nobody Knew What To Do” by Becky Ray McCain tells the story of how one child found the courage to be an UPstander and tell a teacher about a fellow student who was being picked on and bullied by children in school. Goals of lesson: *Identify caring adults who provide support and positive communication. *Teach students how to tell and make a report. *Use positive self-talk to boost personal power in interpersonal relationships. *Role model UPstander responses to support each other. * Create a caring, safe school environment for all by teaching adults on school campuses how to respond to student reporting. *Generate ways to be UPstanders when faced with cyberbullying. To reinforce this lesson at home: · Ø Be the one your child can come to when they need to be heard. Listen and be aware of situations that need further attention. · Ø Stay calm and gather information by asking questions. In most instances, you can help your child identify and state the problem. “So Jack is picking on you at recess. What are some things you/we might do?” Help your child see their personal power is in how they choose to react. · Ø Discuss the potential consequences of the chosen strategy. “If you go to the teacher what would happen?” Look at 2 or 3 strategies and consequences and have your child choose one. · Ø Reassure your child. Thank them for sharing their worries and tell them that you will be “there” when they need help. Check back later to see if the strategy is working. · Ø If you are not sure what to say or do, reassure your child you will find a way to help and get back to them. Follow through on your promises. When you “catch” kids modeling positive behaviors... Notice, Name it, and Celebrate it! |

Our LASD students already have access to Computer Science thanks to LAEF’s generous grant, to LASD’s Leadership, who believe in an innovative education, to the fantastic STEM teachers who jumped in to learn code, to our principals and teachers for their support, and of course, thanks to our enthusiastic students. Now the rest of the country will begin to catch up! To learn more or to make your annual gift; please go to LAEFonline.org. |

Bloomsky Weather Station |

It is located on a pole behind Mrs. Craddock's STEM lab and next to the picnic tables. To see what the data that the weather station captures, download the app (search for 'Bloomsky' in the Apple or Android stores) or create an account on the web at http://bloomsky.com. To find our station, zoom into our area and then select "Springer." You can 'follow' our station and others all over the world including Tahoe, Half Dome at Yosemite and even Paris. For the techies among us, the station works with IFTTT and has an API.
