Principal’s Message |
I write this article this morning inside the Phoenix convention center, waiting for the final keynote speaker at a phenomenal conference about Professional Learning Communities. It has been 3 days of tremendous learning and powerful takeaways. Professional Learning Communities, or PLC’s, have been around in education for a long time. The basic premise of PLC’s is: by working collaboratively together, schools can have profound impacts on student learning, by identifying targeted learning goals, creating common assessments, and (this is the key element) then making sound instructional decisions based on the data. There are, of course, more details to the process, and the process can look different from site to site. But, this idea of professional collaboration, working as a team using a cycle of of inquiry, and dedicating the school to a continuous cycle of improvement is really what it’s all about. Fundamental to the PLC process are the 4 critical questions that teams of teachers, working together, should answer: What is that we want kids to know and able to do? How will we know if they learned it? What will we do if they didn’t learn it? What do we do for the students who did learn it (extension learning)? LASD teachers were exposed to these questions at our Jan. 19th professional development day and will use these questions as guides to improve student learning. Have a great weekend. Author Visit |
On February 11th from 1:00-2:00pm, Springer Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth graders will be treated to a mysterious author visit. None other than the elusive Psuedonymous Bosch, New York Times best selling author of the "Secret Series" of books will be stopping by to discuss his new collection which includes "Bad Magic" and newly released "Bad Luck". Psuedonymous Bosch is evasive and never appears in public without a disguise. He also has a reputation for being a great writer and fantastic presenter at schools. Please feel free to contact Denise Massone (dee04@sbcglobal.net) or Hope Abe (hawnaloha@gmail.com) with questions or to request a soft copy of the order form. |
Tax Donation Receipts From the PTA |
Tax Donation Receipts PTA tax donation receipts were sent home via the Friday Folders before the December holiday break. Please check your child’s backpack if you did not receive it. All families that filled out the BTS form should have received a tax receipt, specifying the portion of the BTS order that was a donation (as opposed to a purchase). A separate tax receipt was sent to families that donated >$250 for the Walk-a-thon. For Walk-a-thon donations under $250, all you need is a copy of your cashed check to claim the deduction on your taxes. Please contact the PTA's Financial Secretary, Sonny Jandial (sonnyjandial[at]gmail[dot]com), if you have any questions regarding tax receipts. Thanks for your support of the Springer PTA! |

It is located on a pole behind Mrs. Craddock's STEM lab and next to the picnic tables. To see what the data that the weather station captures, download the app (search for 'Bloomsky' in the Apple or Android stores) or create an account on the web at http://bloomsky.com. To find our station, zoom into our area and then select "Springer." You can 'follow' our station and others all over the world including Tahoe, Half Dome at Yosemite and even Paris. The Springer community started using a novel fundraising platform last year, called OhmConnect. We're aiming to raise $5,000 this year and all you need to do is signup using this link and connect your utility account. |
