Principal’s Message |
It’s the Cold and Flu Season The cold and flu season, like the rain, has hit Springer hard this winter. Students and staff, alike, have been bit by the bug and it’s no fun! It is everyone’s responsibility to keep Springer as healthy as possible. Please pay close attention to the article below. It contains important information about when to keep your child out of school. No School on Monday or Tuesday As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, Jan. 18th as we celebrate the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. There is also no school for students on Tuesday, Jan. 19th as teachers have a professional development day. The focus of their training is the further implementation of standards based reporting. We’ll see all the children back at school on Wednesday, Jan. 20th. Have a great extended weekend! Los Altos School District Health Services Department: When to Keep Your Child Home From School Sometimes it is difficult, especially early in the morning, to know whether or not to send your child to school. The following guidelines are indications that you should keep him/her home. In this way, you are helping to control the spread of colds, flu, and other contagious illnesses. Keep your child at home when he/she has any of the following symptoms:
You need to keep your child home until he/she has been symptom free without medication for 24 hours.
Also, NOTIFY THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY if your child is exposed to or contracts chicken pox, mumps or measles or whooping cough (pertussis). These conditions can be life threatening to students who are undergoing therapies that suppress their immune systems. The following information is only a guide to common childhood health concerns. Call our District Nurses or personal health care provider for more information. Always bring a copy of a physician’s note to school and/or notify the school if your child will have an extended absence due to a health condition for 10 days or longer. Bloomsky Weather Station |
Springer now has its own weather station! It shows the current and past conditions, the weather report, images of the sky and some great time lapses too. It is located on a pole behind Mrs. Craddock's STEM lab and next to the picnic tables. To see what the data that the weather station captures, download the app (search for 'Bloomsky' in the Apple or Android stores) or create an account on the web at http://bloomsky.com. To find our station, zoom into our area and then select "Springer." You can 'follow' our station and others all over the world including Tahoe, Half Dome at Yosemite and even Paris. For the techies among us, the station works with IFTTT and has an API. Thanks to Bloomsky for donating the station to Springer! |
Project Night Night |
Project Night Night
Springer Brownie Troop 61163 is performing a community service project to benefit Project Night Night (projectnightnight.org). Each year, 1.5 million American children are homeless. Children arriving at a shelter often come directly from an emergency situation. Most of them have only the clothes on their backs. We are collecting items to go in a Night Night package for these children to give them comfort while they are homeless. Each Night Night package contains three essentials that help children feel secure, cozy, and important: a new stuffed animal, a new security blanket, and a like new book (appropriate for a child 12 or under). If you would like to help us, please bring your donation to the office before February 3rd. With your help, these homeless children can dream big while they are still small. Thank you for your help! |
LAEF |
You helped our arrow grow..thank you! Happy New Year! Did you notice the growing arrow on the LAEF sign in front of our school? We have made great progress toward our goal for the 2015/16 school year with special thanks to the families who donated in 2015. We still have $1M to go and strive for 100% participation from every district family. It’s not too late for you to help LAEF pay for the amazing enrichment teachers, staff, and smaller class sizes in TK-3 and 7-8 this year. To learn more or donate, please go to LAEFonline.org. Every dollar will be appreciated! |

Raise Funds For Springer With OhmConnect |
The Springer community started using a novel fundraising platform last year, called OhmConnect. We raised $930 by having a handful of parents of the school turn down their electricity usage just one hour per week. We're aiming to raise $5,000 this year and all you need to do is signup using this link and connect your utility account. |
