Turn them in now!

Attention Springer families – the time to turn in green sponsor cards (signed by a parent) is now. They are due in the office Thursday, October 1, but don't wait until the last day to turn them in. All students who turn their sponsor card will get a prize on Friday, October 2. Pledges can be made in flat amounts or per lap. Please ask your friends, family and neighbors to support Springer... and thank them very much! Extra forms and blue information booklets are available in the Walk-a-thon cubby in the office.

Walk-a-thon T-shirts are much loved by all Springer students. If you'd like to order extra Walk-a-thon t-shirts for other non-student members of your family, please email claudine3c [at] yahoo.com by September 28. Extra shirts are $15.

Finally, it's not too late to volunteer on Walk-a-thon Day (have we mentioned we need you?!). Join your fellow Springer community members for a fun, easy, social one-hour shift. Sign up online today!

International Walk-To-School Day--October 7

Put on your Wild shoes and join us for International Walk-To-School Day on October 7th!  This will be good practice for our Wild Walk-a-thon!

Meet up at Varsity Park at 8am or arrange your own walking school bus from your neighborhood. A treat will be served upon arrival at school.

International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. The event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school, with record-breaking participation. Springer will participate with thousands of schools across America!

Shout Out! We are seeking chaperones to walk from Varsity Park. We also need a volunteer to lead and continue this fun event next year!  Please contact Veronique Gobry at veronique.gobry[at]gmail.com

Notice From The District Nurse

School is a place where colds and diseases can spread rapidly. Children who are ill should stay home from school, rest and recuperate. Sometimes it is difficult, especially early in the morning, to know whether or not to send your child to school. The following guidelines are indications that you should keep your child home:

  • Fever of 99.6 F or higher

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • Chills

  • Nausea

  • Coughing, sneezing and/or runny nose

  • Headache

  • Wheezing or trouble breathing

  • Sore throat or trouble swallowing

  • Rash or unusual sores or spots

  • Generalized muscle aches and pains

  • Unusually red, crusted or burning eyes

  • Head Lice or Nits

It is required to keep your child home until he/she has been symptom free without medication for 24 hours. Please call the Springer Attendance Line (943-4240) if your child will be absent due to an illness. We must receive a call every day your child is sick at home.

Also, NOTIFY THE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY if your child is exposed to or contracts chicken pox, mumps or measles.  These conditions can be life threatening to students who are undergoing therapies that suppress their immune systems. Please click here for the LASD Health policies.

Attendance

Absences and late arrivals are to be reported to the school by a parent or guardian by calling the Springer Attendance Line at (650) 943-4240 by 9:00am, or email Diana Rudolph at drudolph@lasdschools.org.

Children who arrive after the school day begins must sign in at the office to receive a late arrival pass.

For an appointment during school hours, please go to the office to sign out your child. Your child will be sent to the office to meet you.

Observed religious holidays are considered excused absences as long as the absence has been requested in advance in writing by the parent or guardian and approved by the principal or designee (E.C. 48205, B.P. 5113).

LASD STEM Teacher is KBAY’s Teacher of the Month

Congratulations to Grace Choi, Loyola’s STEM teacher, who was named KBAY teacher of the month. She received a Wells Fargo Teacher Innovation Classroom Grant from the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) to purchase LEGO Simple Machine kits for her elementary students. Your LAEF donation helps fund LASD’s STEM Coach and our STEM teachers across the district, who bring invaluable science, technology, engineering and math education to our schools.

OhmConnect Earns $$ For Springer!

The Springer community started using a novel fundraising platform last year, called OhmConnect. We raised $930 by having a handful of Springer parents turn down their electricity usage just one hour per week.

We're aiming to raise $5,000 this year and all you need to do is signup using this link and connect your utility account.

ohmc.co/bcrane09

OhmConnect donates between $50 - $150 per team member per year, depending on how much you reduce. As part of a "Back to School" competition running through 9/24, they'll be donating an instant $30 per new team member. If you haven't signed up yet, now's the time to do it!
