News and Announcements

Many thanks to those of you who attended the LAEF 30th Anniversary party on Friday.  It was a gathering of the entire LASD community to celebrate what we have achieved together.  Thank You, LASD Parents, for your generosity!

We are off to a strong start and have reached the $500k mark towards our $3 million target for 2012-13.  We have a long way to go, but $100 per month per child is a small price to pay for the high quality education our children receive in the Los Altos School District! To raise needed funds to pay for the benefits all children in LASD are receiving today and throughout this school year, LAEF’s suggested donation is $1,000/child, but 100% participation is the goal at whatever level you feel comfortable.

Donate by Nov 1, and help us take advantage of a dollar-for-dollar challenge grant. Donations for new families and increased donations from returning families will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a group of anonymous donors. Please remember to apply for a company match, if available.  Donate Now!  http://laefonline.net/donate
The District Nurses will be doing vision screening at Springer School for all Kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th grades on 17th October.  If your child has glasses or contacts, please make sure that they wear them to school on the day of the screening.  The nurse will mail a referral form to the parents of students who do not pass the vision screening.
Nurse Needed: The Los Altos School District needs a Registered Nurse at lunch time to supervise tube feeding, blood sugar levels and insulin administration.  One hour per day, Monday-Friday, $50 per hour.  To apply, call Marlene Revelo, 650-947-1153
All excused and unexcused absences must be reported to the school office.  Please call the attendance line at 943-4240 to report an absence, or late arrival due to a medical or dental appointment.  After 9:00 AM, please call the office directly at 943-4200.  Late arrivals must sign in at the office and get an admittance slip to return to class.

Join Kami Thordarson, the LASD Innovative Strategies Coach, to learn how teachers are helping students discover curriculum, rather than just delivering curriculum. Using various methods of digital storytelling, design thinking, and project based learning, teachers are igniting their students with a passion for learning and helping them become creative problem-solvers and collaborative learners.
