News and Announcements |
PTA & LAEF are working together! As you come back to school this year, you are probably wondering why both the PTA and LAEF are raising money for our school. Here’s what each organization funds:
- The PTA raises money for school-specific expenses such as buying teaching supplies, playground equipment, computers, etc.
- LAEF raises money to avoid class size increases, keep library hours and still maintain LAEF-funded art, music, PE and science.
Both are mission-critical to our children’s education. LAEF representatives at Springer have established an Ambassador Program involving experts on both sources of funding, which is a great resource. If you don't know who your Ambassador is, or have any questions, ask your teacher or contact LAEF representatives: Nancy F, Sue Longyear (sue.longyear[at]gmail.com) and Brooke Schiller (bbwc[at]sbcglobal.net
Please also mark your calendar for Friday, September 28th, 4-8mp at Covington school - let's celebrate 30 years of community investment in our top-notch LASD schools. We'll have gourmet food trucks, kids’ activities, carnival games and more!

Calling Young Robot Builders
The annual Los Altos Robotics FIRST LEGO League program starts August 28th, 2012 with the worldwide announcement of the Senior Solutions challenge. FLL introduces students in grades 4 to age 14 to the wonders of engineering, science, math, and technology in a fun and engaging way. FLL pairs an academic challenge with a sports-like playing field where children create autonomous robots, and research & create solutions to a real-life problem.
Each fall, teams of 4-10 players have 8-10 weeks to design, construct, program, and test their robots. They compete in fun and exciting tournaments, running robots in time trials and demonstrating technology creativity.
Los Altos Robotics (LAR) hosts the Los Altos FLL Competition. Last year, 24 Los Altos area teams with over 140 local students participated. This year, LAR will have a scrimmage on 21st of October and a tournament on November 18th. We are hosting a parents’ welcome/invitation meeting at Mountain View High School Room 112 on September 4th from 7:30pm-9pm. Come join us to learn more about the program.
FLL is sponsored by FIRST Foundation and LEGO Corporation. For more information, seeLosAltosRobotics.org.
