Springer Teaching Garden is Complete!
If you have had a chance to visit the Springer Garden this year you've seen quite a few new additions. In fact, we've completed all construction projects in the garden's plan this year. There are many people to thank for their generous contribution of time, talent, and resources and I am so grateful that they chose to be a part of bringing this special place to learn and play to the Springer campus.
During the summer Schiller Construction donated the labor to build Joe Nunley's (Nunley Custom Homes) fabulous design for our outdoor kitchen. The granite countertops were donated and installed by Plamar USA from Sunnyvale. The kitchen was plumbed for free by Los Altos Landscape.
Once the kitchen was complete we installed a new set of compost bins and a worm compost bin built for the Springer garden by Bryan Daetz. Eagle Scout candidate Nick Forell is in the process of completing the mosaic table tops for the eating area in front of the kitchen. The tables have checker boards built in to add an additional play element to the garden. Over the summer Nick will be installing redwood log seating around the tables.
Finally, our seat walls on the other side of the kitchen provide an additional place for the kids to sit and enjoy the garden. The tops of the walls have quotations from several authors about the pleasures and benefits of having a garden to enjoy. These beautiful walls were built by Los Altos Landscape.
My thanks and gratitude also go out to the following volunteers who cheerfully provided the grueling labor this year to complete the garden: Tony and Adele Fredriksson, Hope Abe-Titcomb, Scott Titcomb, Chris Brey, Sarah Robinson, and Dave Daetz.
It has been a true labor of love for everyone involved in this project. I feel very fortunate to have had an opportunity to work with so many local businesses and Springer community members to bring the Springer Teaching Garden to our Springer Stars!

Goings on in the Garden
The Springer Teaching Garden is home to the lunchtime Garden Club, which meets weekly for activites including planting, harvesting, and cooking!
Wednesday, March 17
We're back in the garden on Wednesdays at lunchtime with the students. We'll be planting seeds to raise in the greenhouse and some directly into the raised beds. If parents (or other family members) wish to join us, please bring your gloves and your enthusiasm and we'll see you there between 11:45 and noon. If you have questions, please contact Kathy Stiles kathystiles[at]earthlink.net or Denise Massone at dee04[at]sbcglobal.net.
