The Last Time

So many memories!

The tribute held last Friday evening meant a great deal to me.

The chance to visit with families, the opportunity to watch the singing performances, and the time to listen to words spoken by Lara Daetz and Bill Cooper are still echoing in my mind as I write this passage.

It is never easy to end the participation in an event. I think back to the end of high school, my last play of my college football career, the last time I said good-bye to my dad. The end is difficult.

But, there is good news. The good news here can be summarized by a statement I said to the Springer Staff at the conclusion of our final staff meeting together. I said, “End of the season.”

I am not sure anybody in the room really thought about what I said. I was trying to convey that seasons end, but the next one is less than a year away. One season leads to the next.

Well, so it is with me. I had fifteen memorable seasons at Springer and a total of 40 seasons with a definite chance to make a difference in the lives of young people. I played each year as if it were the last. I believe I made a difference in the lives of many; not all, but many.

This final season ends for me with the hope and vision to look for different opportunities that will allow me to make a difference in my life, the lives of the members of my family, and to search for opportunities that allow me chances to still affect the lives of young people. I do not know what those are right now, but options are open.

This “end of the season” is just the close of another chapter for me. Next season is just around the corner.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your community!
